We receive lots of messages from our many supporters and we thought this one from Peter from a week or so back should be shared.
‘I had my elderly father at the Austin Emergency Dept last night (he’s OK). While I was there a kid (late teen) was brought in, having suffered several punches to the head outside a party in Monty - by his account it was not a fight but rather him being assaulted, the violence being one way.
He was quite upset at what had happened to him, saying to the middle aged ladies who thankfully brought him in “I didn’t think anyone would do this to me, I thought everyone knew about the Patrick Cronin thing”.
I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it, having similar aged boys who it might’ve otherwise happened to, and while it saddens me to know that young people (particularly local ones) are still prepared to risk the consequences of violent acts, it occurred to me that the work of the Pat Cronin Foundation was at play - the message had at clearly reached the victim (sadly not the perpetrator), and the ladies who brought him in were wise enough to not just send him home to bed, again, quite possibly as a result of the ongoing campaign.
I’m hoping the kid was OK (he was going into radiology as my father was coming out) but he was in the right place and swiftly. There’s obviously still a long way to go for with the ‘Be Wise’ campaign, but out of the negative aspects of last night, on a positive note, I was heartened to hear and see that the Foundation’s message is clearly out there.’

What a positive move by the AFL to take a strong stance by paying free kicks against anyone who throws a punch on the field.
It won’t take long for coaches to drag players off the ground who continue to give away free kicks.
Now all we need is for the Match Review Panel to suspend players for the same actions.

The AFL believes it can penalise every punch on the football field this year regardless of its force in a league-wide crackdown.A super productive day for the Pat Cronin Foundation today with our Strategic Planning Day held at the Riversdale Golf Club.
Thanks to our board members for their commitment and dedication to supporting the Foundation.
This time last year we had no employees so it was great to have our General Manager, Geoff Smith as well as our new Education Manager, Ben O’Toole join us today.
A special thanks go to a good friend of ours and of the Pat Cronin Foundation in Neil MacDonald for volunteering to be facilitator for the day to keep us focused.
